Newsletter November 2011

The newly refurbished Village hall has gone from strength to strength. Already there are many more events and activities taking place and footfall has increased over the year by 50%. This is certainly due to the quality of the facility and outside visitors are continuing to report that Ratley Village Hall as the ‘best in the region'. As a result the Committee of Trustees at its AGM decided not to increase the basic rate of hire to local users for 6 months despite the increasing costs we all face as utility bills increase. There will be changes to the function rates for outside users however as the quality of the facility makes us far too cheap to hire compared with many other village venues for hire for family celebrations

New Year Party
December the 31st is not that far away and in planning terms the end of 2011 is nigh!
We are looking for volunteers to help us run this event again this year. We are considering a ‘Downton Abbey' theme. Much as last year this will allow people to dress up and have a really good time. We will again be doing a mix of self catering and licensed paid bar (recipe to follow) tickets will be £20 a head (£15 if booked a month in advance i.e. by Dec 1st).
Info.Tel: Bob 670278
Marketing
We are looking for talented and creative volunteers to take over the marketing of the hall. This will involve them in advertising events and promoting activities. An ability to use ICT is vital with both web based and printed presentations needed. They will have creative control designing brochures advertising the facilities and collating and circulating this news publication
Volunteers ‘The Friends of Ratley Village Hall'
Many local villagers continue to be willing to help as volunteers.
We would like to recognise and formalise their ad hoc
contribution by giving them a name. We would like to create
a list of helpers. They will go under the heading of ‘The Friends
of Ratley Village Hall'.
I know many of you would wish to contribute without a ‘title' but it
helps us significantly in our planning for future social and fundraising events if we can build a community base of volunteers in this way. When this was raised as a possibility in the Spring newsletter there was little response. We are asking again if you would be willing to add your name to the ‘friends' and have your e-mail address put on a contact list please let us know. There is no obligation on you, no meetings or commitment change, just a continuation of the generous donation of your time that helped us to renew the hall so successfully in the past.
Join the Trustees of the Hall
We still need to maintain a healthy and fully representative Trustee Management Committee. We are still short of a permanent secretary. Several local groups remain unrepresented on the committee. We have significantly reduced the number and frequency of Trustee Hall Management meetings. This process will continue as a new constitution is created. If you feel you could make a more focussed contribution to the future progress and development of the hall please speak to us about becoming a Trustee. We still have a lot of work to do, to bring our aims and objectives to a successful conclusion, so the involvement & assistance of a range of people representing the community is vital.
Christmas is coming the geese are getting fat......! please remember the village hall is a Charity this yuletide.

Newsletter – April 2011
It is almost a full year since the newly refurbished Village hall was reopened. Already there are many more events and activities taking place and footfall has increased significantly. Many regular users have reported on the quality of the facility and outside visitors are reporting Ratley Village Hall as the ‘best in the region'. We can be justifiably proud of that accolade. It also means we are in increasing demand as a venue for family celebrations from people well outside the parish boundary. This heralds a period of change for the hall but preserving our links and good service to the community is our priority. As a local charity this cannot and will not change.

Volunteers ‘The Friends of Ratley Village Hall'
Many local villagers continue to be willing to help as volunteers. We would like to recognise and formalise their ad hoc contribution by giving them a name. We would now like to create a list of helpers. They will go under the heading of ‘The Friends of Ratley Village Hall'. Already a ‘friend' and neighbour has kindly donated a licence for a year so that films on DVD can be shown in the hall. I know many of you would wish to contribute without a ‘title' but it helps us significantly in our planning for future social and fundraising events if we can build a community base in this way. If you would be willing to add your name to the ‘friends' and have your e-mail address put on a contact list please let us know. There is no obligation on you, no meetings or commitment change, just a continuation of the generous donation of your time that helped us to renew the hall over the last ten years. We are hopeful this will lead to many more community events being organised.
We continue to need funds to support our activities. If you have a fundraising idea please contact us or better still organise it with us and on our behalf.

Trustee Recruitment
We still need to maintain a healthy and fully representative Trustee management committee. We are still short of a permanent secretary.
Fees fall as promised
Please! Get involved & help make a difference to your community - Any activity you can do in large or small groups that you can base in the hall will count as an extra with the BIG Lottery. We have reduced our hiring fees from this April to local users. The new small rooms are particularly cheap to hire. We will continue to do our bit, but it is really up to everyone to make our Hall the real heart of the community especially now! Do not wait for us to organise an event, why not do it yourself? We have experienced people who can advise and train you or just help where we can with planning, promotion or publicity.

If you've got questions, want to get involved straightway or just keep in touch about the future events and activities, talk to any one of the team below.

Community links
Ratley VH has made a loan of its spare chairs to the new Balscote VH where they will be used and stored until we need them again. This is again an important part of the sharing of good practice around the region and we are pleased to help our near neighbours.Luckily we have more successes than failures to show them as examples of good practice.
